Baba Bihari Ji Kathak

Born about 90 years back in BIDASAR village of Churu district in Rajasthan, Baba Bihari Ji Kathak is one of the greatest Folk Artist that India has borne.

He took his initial classical music training from his mother. Later, he also got trained in various ‘Gharanas’ of Kanpur, Banaras, Kolkatta. Apart from Classical Music, he attained great heights in Ghazals and Rajsthani Folk Music. Sadly, this ‘Gem’ of Hindustani Music left us all in 1990.

There is also a Baba Bihari Ji Kathak Fan Club on Facebook, the link for which is given below:

Indian Raga – On His Last Journey…

With a heavy heart, I am writing about my father, Indian Raga.
Indian Raga left all of us on 30th September 2012, to find a place for himself in heaven, which he surely will.

As I believe, you all respect him a lot, let us all pray for him.

And for any music related help that any of you need, please send an email to indianraga@gmail.com, I will try to respond as early as I can.

Thank you for all the affection and support that you gave to Indian Raga in his difficult times.
Indian Raga will always be with us through his precious collection of music.

Regards,

Indian Raga & Family

Ramkumar Chatterjee : four songs

Ramkumar Chatterjee is regarded as the repository of Bangla Puratoni Gaan (old Bengali songs). It was he who popularized the genre of Bengali Baithaki songs. Hailing from a strong musical background as his grandfather, himself a classical singer, wanted young Ramkumar to learn tabla as it would help him to develop an ear for musical notation. However, the prized moment came later when he got an opportunity to accompany Kazi Nazrul Islam during a public meeting held by Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose at Hedua in north Calcutta. Sharatchandra Pandit popularly known as ‘Dadathakur‘ appointed him as a singer at the radio station after a short voice test, which he cleared, and started singing. He was given five rupees per song.
