Raga guide 2

Every Raga is associated with a particular time of day or a season of the year. Each time of the day (i.e. before dawn, morning, noon, late afternoon, early evening, late night) is associated with a definite emotion. The cycle of day and night as well as the cycle of the seasons are supposed to be analogous to the cycle of life. The explanation of the time associated with each Raga may be found in the nature of the notes that comprise it, or in historical anecdotes concerning the Raga.

Raga is NOT based on Aroha, Avroha, Pakad n z bandish only,,z chalan is more needy,,please do show to people Good Recordings,,If you people really want to share Knowledge,,Please share IRRELEVANT Outlines,,Raag is made by improvisation evoking Rasas, bhavas n skills which surely bounded by Taal,,Each note explained carefully,,I DONT SAY THAT SUBHRA GUHAJI DOES NOT SING WELL BUT to display Recordings which can make people 2 understand music,,Im A Doctorate in Music,,hindustani Vocal,,learnt under Pt.Vishwanath Shrikhande n Pt. This blog is not meant for music experts, leave alone doctorates like you. It is for the naive and the uninitiated. I fail to understand the meaning of ‘irrelevant outlines’. If you mean the paragraph at the start of the post then, I am sorry to say, it is very much relevant to the nature of the post. Moreover, it is not an article really, but just a snippet coming from a highly learned and respected musician. I am not teaching classical music on this blog, only helping the newbies to start appreciating it.

The paragraph comes from a famous quote by none other than Pandit Ravi Shankar. My intention was to convey to my visitors the importance of time in the Raga structures. I have never claimed or tried to teach the finer nuances of Indian classical music. Believe me, if I ever tried to do so (not that, I am qualified for it) most of the fans of this blog will prefer to stay away. People visit this site purely to listen and enjoy the classical songs. They never mind the exclusion of Chalan: M G R G SR,,R M P N,P N Sโ€™ Rโ€™ n D P,,D M G R,G R G S,,S R โ€˜n โ€˜D, and blah, blah, blah.

This is a wonderful site I stumbled upon so I shared in Twitter and FB. I plan to learn Indian Clasical music but I don’t care about PhD’s etc … I sing from age 2 and like any good music .. the jugalbandi’s of the 2 Ustads I got from here are simply Timeless.

I came across much of the ragas from film music so my understanding is a bit maybe diluted – but then I am a novice before the sea!

Great work ! Keep it up.

This is really great work. The nuances are clear from Subhra Ji’s singing.
